Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv will not accept China as a security guarantor in any prospective cease-fire deal with Moscow, rejecting a proposal floated by Russia during preliminary discussions on ending the war. Zelensky argued that Beijing failed to intervene meaningfully when Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and again ‘did not help’ to halt the full-scale invasion launched in 2022, undermining its credibility as a protector of Ukraine’s security.
Ukraine does not need China as one of the countries that could provide security guarantees to Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. According to him, China ‘did not help’ stop the conflict in 2022 and ‘did nothing’ when Russia incorporated Crimea in 2014.
Zelensky is against the Russian proposal to include China among the security guarantors.
