2K Games has begun cutting an undisclosed number of jobs at its BioShock studio Cloud Chamber after the long-running BioShock 4 project failed an internal review earlier this month. The publisher told staff the reductions should give the remaining team more time to “rework” key narrative and design elements, according to a memo from 2K President David Ismailer viewed by several outlets. Alongside the restructuring, 2K appointed veteran producer Rod Fergusson—most recently general manager of the Diablo franchise at Blizzard—as head of the BioShock franchise and studio head of Cloud Chamber. Fergusson earned a reputation as a project “closer” after helping shepherd BioShock Infinite to completion in 2013 and previously overseeing Gears of War at Epic Games. Ismailer said Fergusson will oversee both the new game and upcoming franchise extensions, including a planned Netflix film. The leadership shake-up follows the earlier exit of Cloud Chamber studio head Kelley Gilmore and the reassignment of creative director Hogarth de la Plante. BioShock 4 has been in development since 2019, and 2K reiterated its commitment to delivering what it called “the best game in franchise history,” though it offered no updated release window.

I'll bet our 2030 prediction for BioShock 4 also comes true, BTW, with the extra context that the 2K memo provides. Also, please someone take this scythe away from me. First I correctly predicted the cancellation of Everwild, then Contraband, and now BioShock 4 being years away. https://t.co/a76Zoe78tR
