Gearbox Software’s forthcoming looter-shooter Borderlands 4 will include a dedicated audio slider that controls only the voice of the franchise’s talkative robot mascot, Claptrap. The setting, disclosed on 1 July during IGN’s Summer of Gaming coverage, lets players lower or completely mute the character’s dialogue, a first for the 15-year-old series. Narrative director Sam Winkler said he wrote new lines specifically for the feature and joked that he initially proposed a range extending to 200%. The move follows years of mixed fan sentiment toward Claptrap, whose relentless commentary has been both a hallmark and a frequent complaint among players. Borderlands 4 is slated to release 12 September 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a $70 launch price confirmed by publisher 2K Games. The sequel introduces four new Vault Hunters and a seamless open world on the planet Kairos; a Switch 2 version is planned for a later date.
