Trump Says Ending Ukraine War May Help Him ‘Get to Heaven’

President Donald Trump said in a Fox & Friends interview on Tuesday that helping to broker an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine could improve his standing in the afterlife. “If I can save 7,000 people a week from being killed, that’s pretty good. I want to try and get to heaven if possible,” he remarked, adding that he has heard he is “at the bottom of the totem pole.” Trump’s comments came a day after hastily arranged talks at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and seven European leaders ended without a formal peace agreement. While the participants discussed post-war security guarantees for Kyiv, wide gaps remain over a cease-fire and over Russia’s demand for territorial concessions. The president, who has made a swift resolution of the conflict a signature goal, told Fox & Friends that securing peace would be among the achievements that could justify his entry into heaven. He has proposed direct talks between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin and maintains that an accord is possible even without an immediate cease-fire.
