Apple is preparing to introduce its third-generation AirPods Pro as early as September, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in his latest Power On newsletter. The release would arrive three years after the AirPods Pro 2, which continue to lead the premium earbud segment. The forthcoming model is expected to incorporate an in-ear optical heart-rate sensor—technology Apple first deployed in February on the Powerbeats Pro 2. The new hardware would feed workout data directly to the Health app and could tie into a paid Health+ coaching service Apple has under development. Code references to “AirPods Pro 3” in iOS 26 betas and heavy discounts on the current model support a 2025 launch window, though earlier supply-chain notes from analysts Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo had pointed to 2026. Gurman’s report is the most recent and suggests the earbuds will share the stage with the iPhone 17 lineup at Apple’s annual September product event. Separately, multiple leakers say Apple has tested reverse wireless charging for the iPhone 17 Pro, a feature that would let the handset recharge accessories such as AirPods and Apple Watch. If enabled, the capability would further differentiate the Pro series when the new devices are unveiled.
