Google has launched its tenth-generation Pixel smartphones, betting that tightly integrated generative AI will set the devices apart in a crowded high-end market. The Pixel 10 line—comprising the $799 Pixel 10, $999 Pixel 10 Pro and $1,200 Pixel 10 Pro XL—goes on sale 28 August after pre-orders opened this week. All three models run on Google’s new Tensor G5 system-on-chip, fabricated on TSMC’s 3-nanometre process and tuned to run the company’s Gemini Nano language model locally. The silicon underpins ‘Magic Cue’, an assistant that surfaces context-specific information across Gmail, Calendar, Maps and other Google apps, as well as on-device voice translation and summarisation tools. Hardware upgrades are incremental but broad. Displays now peak at 3,300 nits and support 1–120 Hz refresh rates. Qi2-based ‘Pixelsnap’ magnets enable 15-watt wireless charging on the Pixel 10 and Pro, rising to 25 W on the 6.8-inch Pro XL, while wired charging tops out at 30 W (45 W on the XL). The base Pixel adopts a 10.8-megapixel 5× telephoto lens, closing much of the gap with the Pro pair, which retain a triple-camera array and add AI-assisted ‘Pro Res Zoom’ at up to 100× magnification. Google is tying the hardware to long-term software support, promising seven years of Android version, security and ‘feature drop’ updates and bundling 12 months of Gemini Advanced with Pro purchases. Early reviews credit the phones with stronger battery life, louder speakers and more reliable AI features, though performance still trails Qualcomm- and Apple-powered rivals on synthetic benchmarks.
The Pixel 10 Pro XL may get plenty of attention, but the Pixel 10 should be the phone on your radar https://t.co/NA4syd554D
