Nintendo has announced it will increase prices for the original Nintendo Switch family of products in Canada, including the OLED, non-OLED, and Lite consoles, as well as physical and digital Switch games, accessories, amiibo, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships. The company attributed the price adjustments to "market conditions." These changes do not affect the pricing of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, its games, or accessories. The price updates are set to take effect on August 1, 2025. This move has drawn attention given that Canadian incomes are generally 25-40% lower than in the U.S., and the recent U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods, which influenced pricing in the U.S., do not apply to Canada. Nintendo has yet to specify the exact amount of the price increases but confirmed that the adjustments will impact millions of consumers in Canada.
