A federal inmate fatally shot a North Carolina detention officer during a scuffle at a medical facility where he had been taken for orthopedic treatment. The officer, identified as 56-year-old Francisco Flattes, was escorting inmate Kelvin Simmons along with another officer when Simmons managed to seize Flattes' weapon. After shooting Flattes, Simmons fled the scene in a stolen vehicle but was later captured in another county. The incident occurred in western North Carolina. Separately, in Texas, an Alvarado Police officer was shot in the neck outside the ICE Prairieland Detention Center during a protest-related incident involving masked extremists. Authorities indicated the attack was an ambush, with groups including Antifa and far-left extremists reportedly encouraging violence against police and ICE agents.
