Prince George’s County police are searching for the driver who struck and killed a male pedestrian near the intersection of Wheeler Road and Birchtree Lane shortly after midnight on Wednesday. Officers responding at about 12:18 a.m. found the victim unresponsive in the roadway; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorist left without stopping, and investigators have yet to release a description of the vehicle. Detectives are examining nearby surveillance footage and are asking anyone with information to call the county’s Crime Solvers tip line at 1-866-411-TIPS. The hit-and-run is the county’s second fatal collision this week. On Monday night a separate crash at a Brandywine intersection left a retired District of Columbia police detective dead and placed a Prince George’s County officer under internal investigation.
