Two police officers were shot and killed and a third was wounded while responding to a domestic-disturbance call in Tremonton, a city of about 10,000 residents roughly 75 miles north of Salt Lake City, authorities said Monday. The officers came under fire shortly after arriving at the neighborhood on Sunday night and requested backup before losing radio contact, according to Brigham City Detective Crystal Beck. Bystanders persuaded the gunman to lay down his weapon, and a SWAT team later cleared the home. The unidentified suspect was arrested on aggravated-murder charges and remains in custody. A sheriff’s deputy and a police dog who responded to the incident were also hurt and are listed in fair condition, officials added. Investigators said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
