Bengaluru police have arrested a 33-year-old man, identified as Shamsuddin from Assam, on suspicion of murdering his live-in partner and dumping her body in a municipal garbage truck. The victim, Asha—also known as Pushpa—a 40-year-old widow with two children, was found around 2 a.m. on 30 June in a BBMP truck parked near the Chennammanakere Skating Ground in the city’s south. According to South Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Lokesh B. Jagalasar, CCTV footage showed Shamsuddin transporting a bag containing the body on his scooter before discarding it. Investigators believe the accused strangled Asha after a late-night argument, placed the body in a sack, and drove roughly 20 kilometres to the dumping site. Police detained him within 20 hours of the discovery; he is being questioned while officers await post-mortem findings to confirm the exact cause of death and to rule out sexual assault. The couple had been in a relationship for about 18 months and had moved into a rented house four months ago, posing as husband and wife while working for the same housekeeping-supply firm. Police have registered a murder case under the Chennammanakere Achukattu station and are examining further evidence, including phone records and additional surveillance footage, to finalise the charge-sheet.
