UP and Delhi Deploy Drones, Thousands of Cameras, and 900 Police for Muharram and Kanwar Yatra Starting July 6

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have implemented extensive security measures ahead of the concurrent observance of the Kanwar Yatra and Muharram processions starting July 6, 2025. In Uttar Pradesh, officials including DIG Kalanidhi Naithani and various district magistrates and superintendents of police have coordinated comprehensive plans involving thousands of CCTV and AI cameras, drone surveillance, and deployment of substantial police forces to ensure safety and security. Specific challenges such as leopard threats along forest and canal routes in Bijnor have been addressed with heightened vigilance. Peace committees have been formed and multiple meetings held at district and local levels to maintain order. In Delhi, joint commissioners and district police chiefs have prepared for around 31 Muharram programs, including 29 processions, with over 900 police personnel deployed in Shahdara district alone. Extensive arrangements include route monitoring, deployment of officials from the night before Muharram, and coordination with community groups to ensure peaceful observance. In Jammu and Kashmir, police have also made elaborate arrangements for Muharram, including traffic regulations to facilitate devotees. The overlapping timing of these significant religious events has prompted a high alert status, with authorities utilizing technology such as drones, CCTV, and AI surveillance alongside increased manpower to manage large crowds and maintain public safety.
