Delhi Police said a 42-year-old woman, Ruchika Sewani, and her 14-year-old son, Krish, were found dead with throat injuries in their locked home in Lajpat Nagar-I late on 2 July. The discovery was made after Ruchika’s husband, Kuldeep Sewani, called the police control room at 9:43 p.m. reporting bloodstains on the staircase and no response from inside. Deputy Commissioner of Police Hemant Tiwari identified the prime suspect as Mukesh, 24, a domestic help who also worked at the family’s garment shop. Mukesh fled the scene but was arrested early on 3 July by Uttar Pradesh Police aboard a train at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction in Chandauli district. During initial questioning, he allegedly confessed, saying he attacked the pair after being scolded by Ruchika. Forensic teams have collected evidence and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Delhi Police have registered a case of murder and are investigating whether the killings were pre-meditated or carried out in a fit of rage.
