India’s Meteorological Department on Monday issued an orange alert for Mumbai, warning of “extremely heavy” rainfall over the next three to four hours. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation urged residents to stay indoors and take safety precautions, while separate forecasts indicated continued showers in Delhi later in the day. Across the border, Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority said the current monsoon spell is unlikely to abate soon. Karachi registered light drizzle early Monday, but independent forecasters predicted moderate to heavy downpours between 18 and 23 August, raising the risk of urban flooding in the low-lying parts of the city. The NDMA has recorded 657 deaths and 929 injuries from this year’s monsoon season across Pakistan and cautioned provincial authorities to prepare emergency response plans. Temperatures in Sindh exceeded 42°C in several districts on Sunday, adding humidity that meteorologists say could intensify incoming rain systems.
