India’s National Investigation Agency said it has arrested Bhargob Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi from Dibrugarh, Assam, in connection with the recovery of an improvised explosive device planted at Dispur Last Gate in Guwahati. The bomb, attributed to the banned separatist group ULFA (Independent), was allegedly part of a broader plot to carry out multiple blasts across the state ahead of Independence Day 2024. The latest detentions bring to several the number of suspects taken into custody since the device was discovered earlier this year. Investigators are probing the extent of ULFA (I)’s network and the financing behind the planned attacks. The NIA said further arrests and searches could follow as the inquiry continues.
