Stonethrowing broke out during a Muharram procession in Katihar, Bihar, on Sunday when a group allegedly targeted the Mahavir temple in Naya Tola, damaging the shrine and nearby houses. District Magistrate Manish Kumar Meena and Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Sharma reached the site with additional forces to disperse the crowd and secure the area. No serious injuries were reported, but officials said an assessment of property damage is under way. In a separate incident the same day, participants in a Muharram procession in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, reportedly used a horse to ram police barricades after attempting to change the approved route. Police resorted to a lathi-charge to restore order; five officers sustained injuries. Authorities have registered a case against 16 individuals on charges including rioting and obstruction of public servants, and said the situation is now under control.
