In response to public pressure, Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, announced that the Rp 50 million monthly housing allowance for parliamentarians would be discontinued after October 2025. Meanwhile, the police noted incidents such as the application of black oil on the four-meter-high iron fence at the main gate of the parliament complex prior to the protests. The unrest continued into the following days, with additional demonstrations occurring in Medan, North Sumatra, where protesters damaged the entrance gate of the local DPRD building. On August 28, 2025, tens of thousands of workers from various sectors planned and began a coordinated protest in front of the DPR and the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, demanding wage increases and the abolition of outsourcing practices. The police implemented traffic management measures and cautioned against the involvement of students in the protests. The demonstrations have sparked nationwide debate about lawmakers' compensation amid Indonesia's challenging economic conditions.
