Israel on Wednesday launched a nationwide advertising campaign urging citizens to resist Iranian attempts to recruit them as spies, warning that cooperation with Tehran can lead to prison terms of up to 15 years. One video spot asks, “For 5,000 shekels, is it worth ruining your life or family?” and closes with the slogan, “Easy money, heavy cost – don’t help the Iranian enemy.” The drive was prepared by the National Public Diplomacy Directorate and the Shin Bet security service, which said they have uncovered more than 25 recruitment attempts over the past year, resulting in more than 35 indictments on serious security charges. Officials expect Iran to intensify its efforts following last month’s 12-day war, and cited the recent arrest of a Tel Aviv resident accused of plotting attacks on politicians and military installations as evidence of the continuing threat.
