The Hoy No Circula program, aimed at reducing vehicular emissions and improving air quality, has been expanded and is currently in effect in Mexico City (CDMX) and the State of Mexico (Edomex). Since July 1, 2025, the program includes additional municipalities in Edomex to harmonize restrictions with CDMX. The restrictions apply daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and involve limiting circulation based on vehicle characteristics such as the color of the vehicle's engomado (sticker), license plate termination numbers, and hologram classifications (1 and 2). Drivers are advised to check the specific restrictions for each day to avoid fines of up to 3,000 pesos. For example, on July 3, vehicles with green stickers and plate endings 1 and 2 were restricted, while on July 4, vehicles with blue stickers and plate endings 9 and 0 faced restrictions. The program continues to operate with similar parameters throughout July, including weekends, with regular updates on which vehicles are affected. Authorities emphasize compliance to prevent economic penalties and to contribute to air quality improvements in the metropolitan area. The program's enforcement includes both Mexico City and the expanded municipalities in the State of Mexico, reflecting a coordinated regional effort.
