Mexico’s Fiscalía General de la República has dismissed Arturo Serrano Meneses, head of the agency’s Órgano Interno de Control, along with nine senior members of his team, after an internal investigation pointed to possible crimes against the administration of justice, influence peddling and other serious omissions in handling transparency and data-protection matters. The move, announced on 13 August, follows accusations that Serrano approved irregular destruction of seized substances later shown not to be drugs, among other alleged misconduct. Presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum said Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero must clarify the reasons for the purge and determine whether administrative or criminal sanctions will follow. Lawmakers from the opposition Partido Acción Nacional separately demanded detailed information on the case, pressing the FGR to disclose the evidence behind the dismissals and the next steps in the corruption probe.
