Another Michigan Shiite Imam, Mohammad Ali Elahi, also lauded Khamenei's defiance of former U.S. President Donald Trump and framed dying for a higher purpose as honorable. Separately, hundreds of Muslim scholars signed a charter supporting Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, describing it as jihad against infidels and denying Israel's right to exist. The charter also declared any agreements with Israel as lacking religious validity. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)-affiliated designated terrorist organizations Samidoun and Masar Badil have expressed solidarity with the Iranian regime and called for attacks on U.S. military bases in the Middle East and the besieging of Western embassies. Samidoun hosted a top Hamas official, Basem Naim, in an international online seminar attended by Western student activists.
