EU Foreign Policy Commissioner: We support the International Atomic Energy Agency in continuing to monitor Iran's nuclear program
UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi said he has written to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi proposing an early meeting aimed at restoring full cooperation between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Grossi called resumption of verification work “the key to a successful agreement” on Iran’s nuclear programme. The outreach comes after a ceasefire between Iran and Israel took effect this week following days of intensified strikes. Grossi said the lull in fighting presents an opportunity for diplomacy and stressed the agency’s need to regain access to Iranian facilities to track enriched-uranium inventories and other sensitive activities. European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas voiced “full support” for the IAEA and its director general, underscoring Europe’s backing for the agency’s impartial monitoring mandate. Her statement follows criticism of Grossi by Iranian officials and adds weight to his push to restart inspections and ease regional tensions.
