Looks like you'll have to wait a little longer before returning to the swamp, Shrek 5 has been delayed from December 2026 to June 2027. For more info: https://t.co/eGQb742RbX https://t.co/IxRnzMCbcl
Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation have postponed the theatrical release of "Shrek 5" by six months, moving the animated sequel from 23 December 2026 to 30 June 2027. The shift marks the second delay for the project, which was originally announced for July 2026. The studios did not cite a reason for the change, but a June slot aligns with Universal’s recent success with summer animation releases and avoids head-to-head competition with tent-pole titles such as "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Dune Part III," both scheduled for December 2026. To clear the June window, an untitled Illumination event film has been brought forward to 16 April 2027. Franchise veterans Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz will reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona, while "Spider-Man" and "Dune" star Zendaya joins the voice cast as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter. Long-time series collaborators Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn are directing the film, which will arrive a quarter-century after the original 2001 Oscar-winning "Shrek."
