Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held his first official visit to Islamabad on Sunday, meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior Pakistani officials. After a guard-of-honour welcome, the two leaders signed several memoranda of understanding and announced a goal of expanding bilateral commerce to US$10 billion. Sharif said Pakistan "stands with Iran" and supports Tehran’s right under the United Nations Charter to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. He also condemned recent Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, pledging opposition to “any aggression” against the neighbouring country. Pezeshkian thanked Islamabad for what he called steadfast support against Israeli actions and described Pakistan as Iran’s "second home." The Iranian and Pakistani defence ministers, meeting separately, highlighted plans to deepen security cooperation in response to what they termed common regional threats.
