Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday cited newly public FBI interview summaries to accuse Sen. Adam Schiff of authorising the leak of classified material intended to damage his presidency. In a pre-dawn post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called the documents “irrefutable proof” that the California Democrat approved a plan to disseminate derogatory intelligence about him. The records, first reported by the conservative website Just The News and later broadcast by Fox News, quote a long-time House Democratic intelligence staffer who told the FBI he attended a 2017 staff meeting at which Schiff allegedly said classified information would be leaked and used "to indict President Trump." The whistleblower was re-interviewed in 2023, and the bureau’s summaries of both sessions were provided to Congress this week by FBI Director Kash Patel, according to the report. Schiff, a former chair of the House Intelligence Committee and one of Trump’s most outspoken critics, has not responded publicly to the latest allegation. He has previously dismissed similar claims as politically motivated. The FBI documents do not indicate whether the bureau substantiated the staffer’s account or whether any investigation remains open.
