Ukraine’s military intelligence agency said it carried out two sabotage operations in Russia that damaged separate gas pipelines supplying the country’s armed forces and defence-industrial base, marking some of Kyiv’s deepest strikes on Russian energy infrastructure since the full-scale invasion began. The first blast occurred on 5 July on the “Vladivostok” trunk line near Lazurnaya Bay on Russia’s Pacific coast. The pipeline feeds several facilities of the Pacific Fleet’s 155th Naval Infantry Brigade. Ukrainian intelligence sources, cited by multiple Ukrainian media outlets, said the explosion triggered a large fire and forced local authorities to cut mobile-internet services. Russian officials have not publicly confirmed the incident or reported casualties. A second explosion hit the evening of 10 July near the city of Langepas in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, some 3,000 kilometres from Ukraine. According to a source in Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence quoted by Bloomberg and other outlets, the damaged line has an annual capacity of 2.6 billion cubic metres and supplies defence plants in the Chelyabinsk, Orenburg and Sverdlovsk regions. The source put immediate losses at about US$1.3 million and said repairs in swampy terrain could curb deliveries by 25 million cubic metres over the next month. The claims could not be independently verified. Gazprom, which operates Russia’s domestic pipeline network, did not respond to requests for comment, and Russian authorities have not issued detailed statements. If confirmed, the incidents underscore Kyiv’s expanding campaign to disrupt Russian military logistics and production far from the front lines.
