In Turkey, the 2025 nationwide high school entrance exam (LGS) results were announced on July 11, with 719 students achieving a perfect score. These students came from 66 different provinces, with Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir having the highest numbers of top scorers. The exam participation included 963,142 students out of 1,010,916 registered candidates, and there are 201,405 available high school placements for these students. Following the announcement, allegations surfaced claiming widespread cheating and question leaks, including a false claim that 36 students from Bursa's Mahmut Celalettin Ökten Imam Hatip Middle School scored full marks. The Bursa Provincial Director of National Education and the Communication Directorate refuted these claims, confirming only two top scorers from that school. Education Minister Yusuf Tekin strongly denied the allegations of question leaks and exam fraud, stating that the exam questions were shared publicly only after the exam sessions ended and that investigations had been launched against 29 individuals. Tekin criticized opposition parties, particularly the CHP, for politicizing the exam results and spreading unfounded accusations. CHP leader Özgür Özel, speaking at multiple rallies, accused the government of corruption and threatened Minister Tekin with prosecution before the Supreme Court. The Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun condemned Özel's rhetoric as provocative and counter to democratic principles, emphasizing that the people's will is expressed only through elections. The political tensions surrounding the LGS results have intensified, with government officials accusing the opposition of manipulation and the opposition continuing to challenge the government's integrity.
