A new Siena Research survey of 313 New York City registered voters conducted 1–4 August shows Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani opening a 19-point lead in the 2025 mayoral contest. Mamdani is backed by 44% of respondents, while former Governor Andrew Cuomo draws 25%, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa 12% and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams 7%. The poll underscores challenges for Mamdani among a critical bloc: a separate Siena cut of Jewish voters statewide finds him with a 75% unfavorable rating versus 15% favorable. Cuomo’s rating in the same group is 54% unfavorable and 37% favorable, while Adams and Sliwa post 61% and 38% unfavorables respectively. In a parallel statewide survey conducted 4–7 August, Governor Kathy Hochul leads Republican House Conference Chair Elise Stefanik 45% to 31% in an early look at the 2026 race, down from a 23-point margin in June. Hochul’s overall job-approval rating improves to 53% favourable against 42% unfavourable, and she commands 50% support in a hypothetical Democratic primary, with Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado next at 15%.
