US President Donald Trump landed at Prestwick Airport on 25 July for a four-to-five-day stay centered on his Scottish golf properties. The visit, billed by the White House as private, began with rounds at Turnberry and continues with Tuesday’s ribbon-cutting of a second 18-hole course at Trump International Golf Links near Aberdeen, named for his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod. Beyond golf, Trump’s itinerary features back-to-back meetings with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday. Officials on both sides say talks will focus on a prospective US-EU accord that could impose a broad 15 percent tariff on European goods—half the 30 percent rate threatened for August—and on ways to refine the US-UK trade pact signed in May, including British calls to lift a 50 percent duty on steel. Scottish authorities have launched a nationwide security operation as protesters plan marches in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and near the resorts. Polling shows Trump remains deeply unpopular in Scotland, and demonstrators are mobilising around opposition to his stance on climate policy, Middle-East conflicts and his handling of investigative files on the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. Trump’s remarks upon arrival underscored his dual role as property developer and president. Praising Turnberry as “the best course in the world,” he reiterated criticism of nearby wind farms—comments likely to rile local political leaders pushing renewable energy while courting North Sea oil investment. The White House hopes the Scottish stop, and the photo-op at the new course, will shift attention from the Epstein controversy that has dogged the administration in Washington.

Trump: "Today, I'm playing the best course I think in the world. Turnberry. Even though I own it, it's probably the best course in the world. And I look over the horizon and I see 9 windmills at the end of the 18th. I say, isn't that a shame?" https://t.co/5nkTxT4YDD
