U.S. Senator Adam Schiff has established the “Senator Schiff Legal Defense Fund,” according to documents filed with the Internal Revenue Service dated Aug. 14. A spokesperson said the fund is intended to finance legal costs as the California Democrat confronts the possibility of a federal investigation promoted by former President Donald Trump and his allies. Schiff’s office described the expected probe as a politically motivated attempt to punish him for his oversight role in Trump-related inquiries, including the 2016 Russia investigation and the former president’s first impeachment. “This fund will ensure he can fight back against these baseless smears while continuing to do his job,” spokesperson Marisol Samayoa said in a statement reported by the New York Times and NOTUS. The move follows public comments by Trump suggesting Schiff could face prosecution. Schiff, who previously rejected a preemptive pardon offered by President Joe Biden, has not been formally charged with any wrongdoing.
