Coral Springs Police on Wednesday arrested Craig Rogers, a 60-year-old physical-education teacher at Westchester Elementary School, on seven felony counts of possessing child pornography. Detectives launched the investigation on May 22 after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children flagged an account on the Kik messaging platform that was distributing child-sexual-abuse material. Investigators traced the Kik account to Rogers, who referred to himself in group chats as a “pervert teacher.” Images retrieved from the account showed Rogers’s office and equipment room at the school, along with photos of clothed students taken during physical-education classes. Detectives also allege Rogers sent explicit photos of himself from his desk on campus. Officers executed a search warrant at a room Rogers had been renting at a Studio 6 Motel in Coral Springs, seizing multiple electronic devices before taking him into custody without incident. Rogers was booked into the Broward Main Jail. The case remains open as police review the seized media and seek additional information. Broward County Public Schools said Rogers had been reassigned away from students in April, following his arrest in an unrelated stalking case, and that the district is cooperating fully with law-enforcement authorities.
