A 14-year-old boy was shot and wounded outside a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse in West Valley City, Utah, shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, according to police. Witnesses told investigators that a white four-door sedan carrying four people pulled into the parking lot at about 12:50 p.m., called the teenager by name and, after a brief exchange, fired a single round that struck him in the shoulder. The boy was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition. Detectives believe the attack was targeted because the occupants of the car appeared to know the victim. No arrests have been made, and investigators are searching for the vehicle and its occupants. West Valley City Police are asking anyone with information or security-camera footage from the area around 1500 West Parliament Avenue to contact the department as the investigation continues.
