Police departments on opposite sides of the country are seeking the public’s help to locate two elderly women who disappeared on Monday. In Virginia, state police issued a senior alert for 83-year-old Marian Weavers Byers after she was last seen around 2:35 p.m. on Weich Lane in Virginia Beach. Authorities did not release further details about possible destinations or medical needs but asked anyone with information to contact local law-enforcement offices immediately. In Nevada, North Las Vegas officers are searching for 78-year-old Maxine Sykes, who was last spotted at 9:02 a.m. in the 2900 block of Vigilante Court, near Centennial Parkway and Pecos Road. Sykes, described as 5-foot-2 and 148 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes, was wearing a red family-reunion T-shirt with “Sykes” in gold lettering and blue shorts. She left driving a black 2008 Lincoln Town Car bearing Nevada license plate 452-G67. Police consider Sykes endangered because she suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure and possible early dementia and does not have her medication, phone or tracking devices. She is known to frequent casinos as well as Walmart and Target stores in the Las Vegas area. Anyone with information is urged to call North Las Vegas Police at 702-633-9111.
