Hernán Bermúdez Requena, former Secretary of Public Security of Tabasco during Adán Augusto López's administration, is currently a fugitive wanted internationally by Interpol with a red notice issued since January 26, 2025. He is accused of leading the criminal group "La Barredora," which is involved in various illicit activities including extortion, kidnapping, fuel theft, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and control over nightclubs and bars in Tabasco. Investigations against Bermúdez have been ongoing since 2004 by the Tabasco Prosecutor's Office, with a formal arrest warrant issued in February 2025 for crimes such as criminal association, extortion, kidnapping, and narcotrafficking. The federal government, including the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and the Security Cabinet, is collaborating with state authorities to locate and apprehend him. Bermúdez reportedly fled Mexico on January 26, 2025. Despite his alleged criminal ties, Adán Augusto López, now coordinator of Morena senators, has denied any knowledge or suspicion of Bermúdez's involvement with organized crime and has received support from his party amid political controversy. Additionally, Ulises Pinto, alias "El Mamado" or "El Pinto," a key leader and operator of "La Barredora" and former police officer in Tabasco, was arrested in Guadalajara, Jalisco, by federal and state authorities. Pinto was considered one of the main sources of violence in Tabasco and closely linked to Bermúdez. The criminal group "La Barredora" has experienced internal fractures, resulting in two factions: "La Barredora Autónoma" and a faction aligned with the CJNG in Tabasco, both engaged in territorial disputes. The Morena party leadership has emphasized that investigations are the responsibility of judicial authorities and asserted that no one is above the law.
