Authorities in Mexico City have conducted an operation to dismantle and relocate the 4:20 cannabis consumption camp located at Plaza de la Información, near the Hidalgo Metro station. The operation involved the participation of the city's Institute of Verifications (Invea) and the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC). This action follows weeks of negotiations between government officials and activists advocating for free marijuana use. The camp was removed early on August 4, 2025, and the government has relocated the cannabis consumption points to three new controlled locations: Plaza de la Concepción in the historic center, the Monument to Simón Bolívar at the intersection of Paseo de la Reforma, and the José Saramago Reading Plaza. Authorities indicated that the previous sites on Avenida Hidalgo and Avenida Juárez had deviated from their original purpose due to illegal substance sales. The new locations are intended to be away from public transportation and under surveillance to ensure proper regulation. Meanwhile, in related infrastructure news, the highly anticipated Mexico-Guadalajara Train project is progressing under the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum. Additionally, the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry has called on the Jalisco government to address the traffic congestion on Avenida López Mateos comprehensively.
