Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced plans to establish a national regulatory framework for motorcycle use across Mexico. This initiative aims to address the rising number of motorcycle-related accidents and fatalities. Her administration is collaborating with the country's 32 states to define traffic laws, set rules and sanctions, and enhance road safety education. The move also targets mototaxis operating outside existing regulations. In parallel, the government of the State of Mexico (Edomex) will revoke public transportation concessions linked to serious accidents involving injuries or deaths and will suspend the licenses of responsible operators to curb impunity and protect citizens. Additionally, in Mexico City, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) conducted an operation in Coyoacán that resulted in 33 motorcycles being impounded and 70 fines issued for lack of documentation as part of the “Salvando Vidas” campaign. Public transportation unions have expressed willingness to implement protective measures for vulnerable users, including women and children.
