French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu told lawmakers that French forces shot down fewer than ten Iranian drones heading toward Israel in the days leading up to this week’s ceasefire between Tehran and Jerusalem. The intercepts were carried out using ground-to-air systems and Rafale fighter jets operating from French bases in the Middle East. Lecornu emphasised that France took no part in Israeli strikes on Iran and acted solely to protect its own regional installations. He added that Iran had fired roughly 400 ballistic missiles and about 1,000 drones at Israel during the 12-day conflict that ended on Tuesday. France maintains air and naval assets in the Gulf, the United Arab Emirates and Djibouti as part of longstanding deployments.
