Google has launched the AI Futures Fund, a new initiative to invest in and collaborate with startups developing artificial intelligence products using Google DeepMind's advanced models. The fund is open to startups at all stages, from seed to late stage, and offers early access to AI models such as Gemini, Imagen, and Veo, Google Cloud credits, technical guidance, expert mentorship, and the possibility of direct equity investment. Applications for the AI Futures Fund opened on May 12, 2025, and are evaluated on a continuous, rolling basis with no fixed deadline. The program is available in regions where Gemini is supported, and support is tailored to each startup's needs and stage of growth. Early participants include Viggle, an AI-powered meme creation platform; Toonsutra, an Indian digital comic and webtoon app using Gemini for multilingual translation; and Rooms, a platform for interactive 3D spaces. Select startups may receive equity investment, and all participants benefit from hands-on support from Google DeepMind and Google Labs experts. In addition to the AI Futures Fund, Google has backed a $100 million AI fund with Saudi Technology Ventures (STV) to support AI-native startups in the Middle East and North Africa. A separate $500 million DeepMind fund was also referenced, and Google's ongoing investments include major stakes in AI firms such as Anthropic.
