U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday he would "absolutely" be prepared to bomb Iran again if intelligence shows Tehran enriching uranium to levels Washington finds unacceptable. Answering questions in the White House briefing room, Trump responded "sure, without question" when pressed on the prospect of further military action and added that he has halted work on potential sanctions relief for Iran. The threat follows last weekend’s U.S. strikes on Iran’s Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities, attacks the president called "unbelievable." The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed on Thursday that centrifuges at Fordo are no longer operational, though Iranian officials dispute the extent of the damage. Iran’s parliament has since moved to suspend IAEA inspections, obscuring the current status of the program. Trump also lashed out at Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying he vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate the cleric and spared him from "a very ugly and ignominious death." After Khamenei claimed Iran had "slapped America in the face" by firing on a U.S. base in Qatar, the president said those remarks prompted him to drop consideration of easing sanctions. While the administration had been exploring renewed nuclear talks, no meeting with Iranian envoys is scheduled. Trump reiterated that diplomacy remains possible but warned that any renewed enrichment effort would draw a rapid U.S. military response.
