The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $510 million Foreign Military Sale to Israel covering precision-guidance equipment for aerial munitions, the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Monday. The package, now formally notified to Congress, would supply Israel with 3,845 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits for BLU-109 2,000-pound bunker-buster bombs and 3,280 JDAM kits for Mk-82 500-pound general-purpose bombs, along with associated engineering, logistics and technical support. U.S. officials said the sale aims to replenish Israeli stocks depleted during the country’s 12-day conflict with Iran in June and to enhance Israel’s ability to defend its borders, critical infrastructure and population centers. The DSCA stressed that the transaction “will not alter the basic military balance in the region” and added that no additional U.S. personnel would be required in Israel to implement the deal. The announcement comes days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected in Washington for talks with President Donald Trump that are likely to focus on Gaza, Iran and regional normalization efforts. Congress has 30 days to review the proposed sale; lawmakers have not successfully blocked any Israel-related arms transfer during Trump’s second term.
