Indie distributor 1-2 Special has acquired North American rights to “Urchin,” the first feature written and directed by British actor Harris Dickinson. The New York-based company, which launched earlier this year, intends to give the film a theatrical release in the United States this fall. “Urchin” premiered in May at the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard sidebar, where it earned both the section’s best-performance award for lead actor Frank Dillane and the critics’ FIPRESCI Prize. The London-set drama tracks a homeless man’s attempts to escape addiction and was produced by Dickinson’s Devisio Pictures with backing from BBC Film, the BFI and Tricky Knot.
