The White House signaled a hard line on alleged intelligence abuses, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt telling reporters that the President “wants to see Adam Schiff held accountable for the countless lies he told the American people” during the Trump–Russia investigation. Leavitt said the administration is “taking accountability very seriously,” marking the most direct executive-branch call yet for possible sanctions against the California Democrat, now a U.S. senator. Her remarks came hours after Congress received newly declassified FBI interview summaries from 2017 in which a Democratic staffer on the House Intelligence Committee told agents that then-Representative Schiff had approved leaking classified information to the press. The interview notes, released at the whistleblower’s request, add to a series of leak inquiries the bureau codenamed “Arctic Haze,” which examined how sensitive material reached major newspapers at the height of the so-called Russiagate furor. Separate memos made public the same day detail how former FBI Director James Comey enlisted Columbia Law School professor Daniel Richman as an outside conduit to reporters. Richman admitted to agents that he routinely shared information—some later judged to be highly classified—with The New York Times to, in his words, help Comey “shape future press coverage.” Legal analysts say the documents could expose Schiff to charges carrying up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each proven disclosure, according to former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman. Republican lawmakers including Representatives Jim Jordan and Mark Harris urged swift follow-up hearings and pressed the FBI for why the material, compiled over several years, was not provided to oversight committees earlier. House investigators are now seeking testimony from the whistleblower, while the administration weighs what steps—if any—it can take without infringing congressional privileges. Schiff has not responded publicly to the latest allegations, and no charges have been filed.
WILL SCHIFF GET WHAT HE DESERVES, IF GUILTY? The panel discusses the accusations and evidence against Sen. Schiff, and what should happen next in this scandal. “Schiff’s comments were made in a room, heard by many others.” - Elizabeth Barcohana @TiffanyMBrannon @JobobTaeleifi https://t.co/88x96ZX1ow
