Israel is investigating two separate espionage cases allegedly directed by Iranian intelligence, including a purported bombing plot against Defence Minister Israel Katz, according to Israeli media reports and an indictment filed on 29 June. Channel 12 television said Roi Mizrahi, a 24-year-old Israeli arrested in April, had planted a powerful explosive device near Katz’s home. Security officials believe the bomb was close to detonation before the suspect’s detention, and no injuries were reported. In a separate case, state prosecutors indicted Dennis Lyakhov, 30, of Rishon LeZion for contact with a foreign agent and providing intelligence to an enemy. Lyakhov is accused of filming residential streets and other sites for Iranian handlers. Israeli security services say the incidents reflect Tehran’s stepped-up effort to recruit local operatives for attacks and intelligence gathering inside the country. Both suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
