Switzerland has reopened its embassy in Tehran, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs said on 6 July. Ambassador Nadine Olivieri Lozano and a small team returned to the Iranian capital overland via Azerbaijan, ending a shutdown that began on 20 June during the 12-day air war between Israel and Iran. The mission, which also represents US interests in Iran, will resume operations gradually; consular services, including visa issuance, remain suspended for now. The United Kingdom followed suit a day later. Middle East Minister Hamish Falconer told Parliament on 7 July that the British embassy is again functioning after its own precautionary closure during the same hostilities. A chargé d’affaires is now in place, and London says it continues to assess regional security while coordinating with the International Atomic Energy Agency on nuclear-related developments. The twin reopenings signal a tentative improvement in security conditions for foreign diplomats in Iran after the late-June conflict, which saw reciprocal strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and Israeli targets before a cease-fire took hold on 24 June. Both governments said they would keep regional tensions under review before restoring full consular operations.
